    Life Connections
    Goal: to begin discussion about the importance of setting goals.
     
    I. Ted Talks-  Students watched two different Ted Talks today that each had to do with goal.  In their composition books, student wrote down interesting ideas and thoughts on how the talks relate to goals.
     
    II.  After watching the Ted Talks, students were divided into groups and discussed their ideas about the videos.  We then came together and had a class discussion.
     
    III.  Students were assigned to start reading Habit 2.  Students received a reading guide to accompany their reading of the book.  Student had about 30 minutes to begin reading either by themselves or in groups.

    IV.  Notes on gustar-  Students completed Cornell Notes based of a PowerPoint given by Senorita Michaelson.  Student learned about how to use the different forms of gustar.
     
    Tarea/ Homework: Write a 3-4 sentence summary on your Cornell notes.

    II. Triángulos- Students practice vocabulary by putting together a puzzle.
     
    III. Do you get it Practice Sheet- Subject Pronouns and ser- Students worked together on a worksheet to reinforce subject pronouns and ser conjugations.  We will finish this sheet tomorrow.
     
    Students should review Unit 1 L1 Vocabulary as well as subject pronouns and ser because we have a quiz tomorrow!

    II. Sentence Structure Game-  Students were given different parts of speech and had to create the sentence in Spanish that was given to them in English.
     
    III.  Intro to Spanish speaking countries.  Students watched a short video presenting the Spanish speaking countries.  Then then started working on labeling maps of Central and South America.

    III. Create a study aid-  Students created a "shutter" sheet where they can open flaps to reveals the information they are studying.

    Goal: to visualize time commitments and plan ahead for homework and projects
     
    I. Bellwork
     
    II. Fill in weekly schedule-  Students listed out all their commitments for the next two weeks and then blocked out chunks of time on their weekly schedule schedule sheet.  This is meant to help students visually see how many commitments they have and to anticipate when they might not have time to do homework or work on a project.

    II. Share word cards-  Students were assigned to write definitions of vocabulary words in Spanish.  They then read their definition to the class and students tried to guess the vocabulary word.
     
    III.  Students spent the remaining time in class creating a Lotería card for Monday.
     
    Tarea: Review and Complete DOPN notes.  Students received DOPN Cornell noted from Señorita Michaelson and will                   complete them with this PowerPoint.  Do your best to complete the notes!

    Goal: to recognize proactive and reactive personalities.
     
    I. Bellwork
     
    II. Read pages 48-50 as a class and discussed what makes a person reactive and proactive.  We also discussed how students personally respond to situations.
     
    III. Outside demonstration- Ask your students about it!
     
    IV.  Proactive vs. Reactive Worksheet- Students worked in groups to brainstorm about how to be proactive.
     
    V.  We watched the Pixar shorts "Boundin;" and "Partly Cloudy" and observed which characters had reactive personalities and proactive personalities.  We also talked about specific actions that helped us identify the personality.
     
    Homework: Habit 1 Reading Guide due 8/26

    V.  ¡Vamos a viajar! Thinking Map.  Students used a PowerPoint to complete a thinking map about the process for taking a trip.  Students had to comprehend audio statements with visual clues of what was happening.  At the end students wrote three sentences in Spanish about traveling and turned that in for a grade.

    II. Introduction to Pronouns and Ser:  Today in class Students completed completed Cornell notes while being guided by Mrs. Michaelson through a Powerpoint presentation.  To review the PowerPoint click here!  
    • This is a FOUNDATIONAL concept that students MUST MEMORIZE!  Students should review their Cornell Notes and check that they copied down the correct information from the PowerPoint.   

    To wrap up class students received a homework practice page on subject pronouns as well as some puzzle pieces that they will use to help them study subject pronouns and conjugations of ser.
